It was yet another day evaluate what Andrew Painter on the mound and it turned out to be something very positive. How the kids did:
Lehigh Valley 9. Indianapolis 8
With Painter on the mound for the IronPigs, he was going to draw most of the focus and for the better part, he was very good. Six innings of only allowing a run on a home run, striking out six and getting quite a bit of swing and miss on his fastball is a step forward for the young man. He still isn’t being mentioned much as an option to cure
the fifth starter’s spot, which is interesting to think about, but the team looks comfortable simply letting him continue working on things in Lehigh Valley.
As for the rest of the game, Keaton Anthony led the offense with three hits while several hitters – Liover Peguero, Dylan Moore and Carter Kieboom – all had two RBI on a day where the bat woke up a little bit. One might wonder where all the runs came from if everyone was performing so well, but it really was just some shoddy fielding in the ninth inning that allowed Indianapolis to score a few unearned runs to make it closer than it actually was.
Reading 6, Harrisburg 2
Bryan Rincon continues his year that has seen him start to show off some power, hitting his 16th dinger on the season to pace a Fightin’ Phils team that is surging a bit. Rincon hasn’t had this much over the fence power in his career yet and maybe it’s a side effect of playing half the games of the year in Reading, but it’s a nice piece of player development that he is getting going a bit more. Luke Ritter joined him as the hitting star of the day, going four for four, all singles and scoring a run.
Brooklyn 6, Jersey Shore 1
There were at least two hitters that had decent days for the BlueClaws in Wuilfredo Antunez (two doubles) and Trent Farquhar (two for two off the bench, including a double), but it was again more of the same. The pitching had a bullpen game where no one was really anything of note, the lack of offensive talent showed up and another loss was registered.
Clearwater 8, Daytona 5
Cole Gilley was good in his four innings for the Threshers, but the star was Mark Kolozsvary. A grand slam in the fourth inning was the big blow that helped lead the offense to a win. Robert Phelps, Alirio Ferrebus, Lyle Miller-Green and Victor Cardoza also had an RBI a piece for the offense.
