• The Mariners traded top catching prospect Harry Ford to the Nationals for left-handed reliever and saxophonist Jose Ferrer.
• In the wake of Harry Ford’s departure, the Mariners are open to bringing back Mitch Garver to continue being the backup to Cal Raleigh.

Around the league…

• We got our first proper Bob Nightengale moment of the off-season yesterday! Bob tweeted yesterday morning that the Chicago Cubs were close to signing free agent SP Zac Gallen. Less than ten minutes later Bob corrected the messaging in his tweet but not before he was bluntly corrected by Jeff Passan.
• In fairness to Mr. Nightengale, this could go down as a classic case of “never wrong, just early.” Just a couple hours after his Twitter faux pas, Patrick Mooney at The Athletic published reporting confirming that the Cubs are definitely interested in Gallen.
• Former Giants top prospect Marco Luciano was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday. Luciano was once a unanimous top-100 prospect but never managed to break through with the Giants, but the move to Pittsburgh will likely open the door for significant major league playing time.
