Things are looking very different for the Falcons heading into their second consecutive primetime game in Week 4. After an 0-2 start with reserve quarterback Cooper Rush at the helm, Atlanta finally got their starting quarterback into the lineup in Week 3. Michael Penix Jr. provided the spark the team desperately needed on offense, and the Falcons came away with a dominant upset victory over the Packers.
Now Atlanta heads down to New Orleans for a rivalry matchup on Monday Night Football. The Saints
are also coming into this game at 1-2 after a multitude of fourth quarter turnovers cost them the game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Monday’s game could hand the winner the early lead in the beleaguered NFC South, so how do the oddsmakers view the matchup?
The Saints opened as 2.5-point home favorites per FanDuel—a line that would’ve shocked many just a week ago, given the Falcons play the first two weeks. The moneyline for Monday Night Football is at -152 for New Orleans and +128 for Atlanta, and the over under is set at 48.5.
The Falcons haven’t quite earned our trust, although Week 3 was certainly a step in the right direction. Atlanta has an opportunity to put the first two weeks of the season firmly the in the rearview mirror with a victory over their hated rivals. The Saints are clearly vulnerable as one of the most turnover-prone offenses in the NFL, and the loss of left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. and running back Travis Etienne Jr. could be significant. This is Atlanta’s chance to get back to 2-2 and take control of a floundering NFC South. I just hope they actually take advantage, for once.
