Alexander Isak has suggested that the public does not yet know the full story behind his move from Newcastle United to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old striker helped Newcastle complete a Premier League-record sale worth £130million, with Liverpool paying £125m, on deadline day after training alone all summer and publicly declaring in August that his relationship with Newcastle “couldn’t continue.”
Speaking after Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier, Isak’s first game in months, he told
reporters that there was more context to his departure than has so far been revealed. Do you believe him?
“It’s clear that not everyone has the whole picture, but that’s something for another day,” Isak said. “That’s part of football. I can’t control everything that is said or written. But I’m glad I became a Liverpool player. That’s what I wanted, and I’m happy about that.”
Isak added that he was “proud” to be joining Liverpool, but insisted he would not go into detail about the saga, describing it as “a closed chapter” while stressing he had “never had any problems” in Tyneside. Do you believe him?
Isak admitted the move had been “a fairly new situation” for him but said he had learned from it. Do you believe him?
“It’s been educational, and I’m happy with the final result,” Isak said. “Right now, the disappointment is about this match and how it went. It was a tough loss. It’s clear we’re underperforming. But at the same time, I have a positive feeling about the club team part that is coming.”
The forward made his first appearance since May in the defeat in Pristina, coming on for Anthony Elanga—yes, that Anthony Elanga—in the second half and producing two shots on target with none of them touching the net.
