Happy Sunday, as today is the last Sunday at The Rate for the Chicago White Sox this year. They will end their season at home with an afternoon matchup against the San Diego Padres, as they look to steal a series from the Padres, who are fighting for a playoff spot with a magic number of three.
If you’re heading out to the ballpark, it’s Fan Appreciation Day, with giveaways entering the park (cool Comiskey Park retro radio) and throughout the day as well.
Michael King will be on the mound vs Sean Burke
in the series closer. King is 4-3 on the season with a 3.84 ERA, spending most of the season on the IL due to a multitude of injuries including a long stint due to shoulder inflammation. He has been with the Padres the last two seasons after starting his career with the New York Yankees. His last outing was short against the New York Mets, and let’s just say it was UGLY: three innings with 10 hits, eight earned runs and two strikeouts. Something to watch for is that his outings have been on the shorter side since coming back from injuries, so the Padres could have to turn to their bullpen early on — bad news for the White Sox, because the San Diego pen is excellent.
Burke is on the mound for the South Siders, with a 4-10 record and 4.29 ERA on the season. He has been a solid starter for the team, appearing in his 27th game of the season. His outings have also been short as of late, as he generally struggles with command and walk issues. He went four innings with two hits, one run, and four walks against the Baltimore Orioles his last time out.
Chase Meidroth leads it off, followed by Kyle Teel and Colson Montgomery. Miguel Vargas and Edgar Quero follow, and Brooks Baldwin takes center. Lenyn Sosa, Will Robertson, and Dominic Fletcher round it out.
Game time is at 1:10 p.m. CT. Watch on CHSN, and listen on WGN this afternoon.
