Victor Wembanyama returned to Nanterre, a suburb of Paris, France, where he played basketball as a teenager. He was there as a guest of honor in the unveiling of a refurbishment to the basketball court.
Per a Spurs press release:
“The San Antonio Spurs revealed a newly refurbished basketball court in Nanterre, France,
commemorated with a youth basketball clinic and appearance from Spurs player Victor Wembanyama. Presented by Ledger, the court is part of the Spurs ‘Play Paris’ program, which was launched in 2025 in honor of the organization’s continued commitment to inspire the next generation of elite athletes and provide safe, accessible play spaces across France.“
R. C. Buford was also on hand for the ribbon cutting and the center court logo reveal. The Spurs along with Ledger have launched the “Play Paris” initiative in 2025, a program built to inspire the next generation, provide access to play and create a lasting legacy within the community.
“The opening of this court reflects what Play Paris is all about – honoring legacy and creating opportunities for young people to come together through basketball. Nanterre has helped shape France’s basketball culture in a meaningful way, and we’re proud to invest in spaces where the next generation can continue to develop, build confidence and feel connected to the game that unites us globally.”
The court design features Nanterre 92’s signature green and black. The court is open to the public and will host tournaments, youth clinics as well as free play.

Raphael Adam, mayor of Nanterre, succinctly linked the partnership stating,
“Ever since you welcomed a child from Nanterre, an unbreakable bond has been forged between our city and the legendary NBA franchise, the San Antonio Spurs. This court stands today as a symbol of that connection—a source of pride for Nanterre and its residents.”
