The Detroit Lions’ 2025 season opener was an afternoon to forget. The offense nearly went without a touchdown for the first time since 2022. The defense gave up 17 points on the first three possessions. And special teams was a mess for nearly the entire game.
Coach Dan Campbell insisted all of the issues were fixable, and that Sunday’s performance was not an accurate portrayal of who they are.
“Everything that showed up is so correctable, and we will. We’ll hit it head on, our players are accountable
man, they’re ready,” Campbell said. “And nobody takes it worse than they do, so that’s the good news, we got the right dudes.”
But, of course, that’s what a head coach is going to say. I don’t doubt for a second that Campbell believes that, but it remains to be seen if that’s actually true.
So on this week’s PODcast, our crew recaps the Lions vs. Packers game, and measures our level of concern for each aspect of the game. Will offensive coordinator John Morton find more creative ways to get players open downfield so that Jared Goff doesn’t become a checkdown machine? How concerning is the offensive line performance, and will the Lions run game take a huge step back this season? On defense, were things really that bad? How will the generate pressure with more struggles in their blitz packages? And what do we make of the early struggles from the outside cornerbacks?
We discuss that and a whole lot more on this week’s episode of the PODcast. You can check it out in the Spotify embed below or on whatever podcasting platform you prefer. Simply search “Pride of Detroit.”
For a little more talk about the game and some other non-Lions related issues, you can also catch the show over on YouTube. Not only does that have video of the show, but extra in-between segments discussions.
