The Baltimore Ravens have lost both of the centers on their roster to “long-term” injuries, head coach Jesse Minter said on Wednesday.
The team already lost Danny Pinter to a season-ending knee injury in training camp and Corey Bullock to a Panthers waiver claim during roster cuts – not to mention Tyler Linderbaum’s departure in free agency months earlier. Now, what?
Zach’s take: The Ravens have massive center problems right now. Danny Pinter was already done for the season, and both Jovaughn Gwyn
and Ethan Pocic had to be carted off the field during the Cowboys game in Brazil. Now, we know both will be out “long-term.” In the immediate future, the Ravens’ only response is to play rookie first-rounder Vega Ioane at center. He snapped the ball in Brazil when it was needed and didn’t make any mistakes in an extremely high-pressure situation. Baltimore does not have any other options on the roster or practice squad after choosing to keep Andrew Vorhees on the 53-man roster over Corey Bullock, who was claimed off waivers by the Panters. Minter indicated that both Gwyn and Pocic could go on IR, so the Ravens will need to make a signing this week in any event. In the long-term, if Gwyn and Pocic are out for the year, the Ravens will have to make a major trade for either a guard or center. That will depend on what’s available on the market and if Ioane is a viable option at center, which the Ravens will find out during Week 4.
Now, it’s your turn! How do you think the Ravens should approach the center position, both in the short- and long-term? Let us know in the comments section below!
