The Knights did not embarrass themselves against the Jumbo Shrimp (81-57), taking three of seven against one of the International League’s top teams.
Outfielder Caden Connor, 25, got promoted from Birmingham to Charlotte on September 2 and immediately made a positive impact with his new club. Connor appeared in all seven games this week, and he went 10-for-20 with a homer, three walks, and six RBIs, resulting in a monstrous 1.233 OPS. Connor opened the season in Winston-Salem, where he posted a 126 wRC+ in 18 games before being promoted. Birmingham is where Connor spent most of this season, and he made his presence felt, posting a 115 wRC+ in 89 games there. Connor’s first week in Triple-A could not have gone much better, as Connor was on fire. Connor also capped off the week with a bang on Sunday. In the bottom of the ninth, the Knights trailed by a score of 7-6. With runners two outs and runners on second and third, Connor had an opportunity to be the hero, and he took full advantage. Connor launched a walk-off homer to wrap up a thrilling game in Charlotte.

After surprisingly losing a series last week, the Barons got back on track with a 4-2 series against the Lookouts (68-60).
The weekly award for this team was very difficult to decide on, as a couple of individuals made massive contributions to the series victory. Ultimately, though, the distinction goes to shortstop William Bergolla, 20, who really made a splash this week. Bergolla went 10-for-19 with four doubles, a walk, and a stolen base in his only attempt. Bergolla also led the team with nine RBIs, as his production continued in high-leverage situations.
Pitcher Riley Gowens, 25, made two starts, and he was very effective in both of them. Overall, Gowens only allowed one run on seven hits in 11 innings, striking out 15 along the way. Gowens has been with the Barons all season, and he has been a major contributor to the rotation’s success. After this great week, his ERA is down to 3.33, and opponents are only slashing .222/.301/.350 against him.

It was not exactly a season to remember for the Dash, but the team did finish strong, winning 12 of their last 18 to escape the South Atlantic League’s cellar.
Starter Gage Ziehl, 22, also finished on a high note. In his last three starts of the year, Ziehl only allowed one earned run in 15 1/3 innings. Ziehl’s final start was on Tuesday, when he could have hardly been any better. Ziehl pitched five shutout innings against Greenville (66-66), and only allowed one hit. The White Sox received Ziehl from the Yankees in exchange for Austin Slater, and so far, he is living up to expectations. In 24 2/3 innings with the Dash, Ziehl has posted a 4.01 ERA and a 2.50 FIP. Overall, in 107 innings across both organizations, Ziehl posted a 4.12 ERA and a 3.39 FIP.

The Cannon Ballers wrapped up their season with a 4-2 series victory over Augusta (67-62).
Pitcher Jake Curtis, 23, was on top of his game for the Cannon Ballers. Curtis only allowed one run in nine innings of work, and he totaled nine strikeouts without issuing any walks. Despite the series victory, Kannapolis allowed 30 runs in the series for an average of five per game. As a result, Curtis’s performance was especially valuable.
Thanks to their sky-high OBP and production on the base paths, Jordan Sprinkle and Arxy Hernández also made a strong push for the weekly award. Very well done to this players on their impressive production this week.
