Germany’s 2-0 victory over Serbia was a performance defined by almost complete statistical dominance, with the numbers highlighting just how one-sided the game became under Jürgen Klopp.
Germany controlled 74% of possession and used that control to relentlessly pressure Serbia. Klopp’s side finished with an incredible 32 shots, compared to just one from Serbia, while Germany also registered eight shots on target. Serbia managed only one effort on target throughout the entire match.
The expected goals
numbers tell perhaps the clearest story. Germany finished with 3.90 xG, while Serbia produced just 0.01 xG. That means Germany did not simply have more of the ball or take speculative efforts; the team consistently created significantly more threatening opportunities.
Germany also recorded 44 touches inside Serbia’s penalty area, compared to just three for the visitors. The difference in big chances was similarly striking, with Germany creating six compared to Serbia’s one.
The passing statistics underline Germany’s control. They completed 672 passes at a 92 percent accuracy rate, while Serbia managed just 187 at 70 percent. Germany also won the corner battle 12-1.
If there is one frustration for Germany fans, it is that the team scored only twice despite generating so much attacking production. Six big chances were created and four were missed, meaning the final scoreline could easily have been even more emphatic.
Still, the bigger takeaway should be encouraging for supporters. Klopp’s Germany did not simply find a way to win; they controlled virtually every important aspect of the match. Germany dominated possession, created chance after chance, kept Serbia pinned back and allowed almost nothing defensively.
For fans, that is the exciting part. The 2-0 scoreline was convincing, but the numbers suggest Klopp’s Germany could have produced an even bigger statement.
