Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has offered another strong endorsement of Michael Olise, while acknowledging that Bayern Munich will eventually have to address the French winger’s long-term future at the club.
Olise is currently under contract with Bayern Munich until 2029, giving the club significant security when it comes to one of its most important attacking players. However, Rummenigge believes Bayern Munich will eventually need to sit down with Olise and make an offer
that reflects his growing importance. At that point, Bayern Munich could discover whether or not the Frenchman is all-in or potentially looking to move on.
Rummenigge also placed Olise in rare company, comparing him directly with FC Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal. While both players are considered among the outstanding young talents in the position, the former Bayern Munich executive believes Olise currently possesses a greater level of maturity in his game.
“He’s under contract until 2029. At some point, the club will have to sit down with him and present him with an appropriate offer. He’s exceptional in his position. There are two outstanding players in that role: Olise and Lamine Yamal. At the moment, I’d even say Olise’s game is more mature. By the way, Olise and Harry are the two absolute favourites in my family – all my grandchildren wear Olise or Kane shirts” Rummenigge told Abendzeitung journalist Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The comments come as Olise continues to establish himself as one of the most influential players in Vincent Kompany’s squad. His combination of creativity, technical ability, and production has quickly made him a central part of Bayern Munich’s attack.
There is also something fitting about Rummenigge’s final comment. While his assessment of Olise is based on the winger’s performances at the highest level, his grandchildren apparently have their own reasons for making Olise and Harry Kane their Bayern Munich favorites.
For Bayern Munich supporters, the important part is that Olise remains tied to the club for several more seasons. Still, Rummenigge’s comments suggest that a future contract discussion could become an important piece of business as Olise’s status continues to rise.
