Sorry, Jake Paul. Ryan Garcia won’t be stepping in to fight you now that you’re looking to replace Gervota Davis.
Paul vs. Davis was set to go down on Friday November 14th, but a new lawsuit from an ex-girlfriend
accusing “Tank” of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping has the fight in limbo. Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions is currently looking to push the fight back a month and find a new opponent, but it won’t be Ryan Garcia according to Oscar De La Hoya.
De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions holds Garcia’s contract and Oscar made it clear in a new video on social media that a fight with Jake Paul would not be made.
“A lot of people are asking me about Ryan Garcia and Jake Paul,” De La Hoya said. “Let me just tell you guys why this fight is not gonna happen: Ryan Garcia fights for DAZN, and Jake Paul fights on Netflix. That’s pretty much the bottom line. Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN. Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy, and that’s just the way it is. This is business.”
This is not the first time De La Hoya has stepped in and spoiled potential Garcia fights. “King Ryan” was set to box kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in Japan on New Year’s Eve 2025 … until De La Hoya shut things down. Oscar implied Garcia might not be happy about him doing it again with Jake Paul, but them’s the terms of their deal.
“Ryan Garcia is probably gonna go on a rant,” De La Hoya said. “‘Oh, you’re keeping me from making money and this and that and fighting.’ No! You have to go by the law, by the rules. You have a contract with DAZN. You have a contract with Golden Boy. It just doesn’t happen that way.”
“Ryan Garcia’s next fight will be announced … by me. Who he’s fighting, and when he’s fighting next.”
De La Hoya isn’t just leaving Garcia on the shelf. New reports have a deal coming together that will see Garcia challenge Mario Barrios for the WBC 147 pound belt in early 2026.
As for Jake Paul, he may be stuck doing a lukewarm rematch against Nate Diaz, or taking on the much more dangerous Francis Ngannou. Whatever he does, it’ll have to be done quick, or Paul may end up having to completely cancel his big money Netflix event entirely.
