Mizzou Football’s injury report to the SEC shows how much this team needs a bye week.
I know Sammy talked about the injury report yesterday, but the list has morphed and grown a bit. Missouri has the biggest game of the season tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, the dings are piling up after six straight weeks of games:
That’s a lot of dudes banged up.
The Tigers are going to have to fight through one more week before they can rest and recover.
But if they beat Ole Miss…
Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+
SOCCER DUBS!
- Mizzou Soccer took to the road at Ole Miss and wiped out the Rebels 3-0, Jack has the story:
Emily Derucki opened the scoring in the 28th minute, finishing into the bottom right corner with her right foot off a Lana
Adams through ball that set Derucki up one-on-one with the keeper. Riley Wilkerson protected the lead, stopping an Isabelle Wright shot in the 43rd minute, and Missouri went to the break up 1-0 despite Ole Miss holding a 6-5 edge in shots.
The Rebels are the worst team in the SEC, maybe along with Texas A&M. But you have to beat those teams!
ICYMI last night, Karen posted her breakdown of the Mizzou Gym schedule, you can read it here:
To officially start the new season, the Tigers will ring in 2027 with an all-Big 10 matchup at Zou to the Lou on Friday, January 8, which makes its triumphant return after a year off and is the first of two podium meets scheduled during the regular season. This year’s iteration will feature Illinois, Nebraska, and Iowa, and with it being during winter break (and at the Family Arena in St. Charles), I don’t expect a massive crowd, as much as I’d love to see it.
National Powerhouse Mizzou Gymnastics has a nice ring to it.
- Mizzou Football stuff was hot and heavy yesterday, first up is Jaden’s RISERS AND FALLERS post:
But the beginning of a season doesn’t define a player or team, and as Eli Drinkwitz mentioned after the Florida game, players are allowed to improve.
“He came to grips with the fact that we love him regardless and we just need him to play a little better,” said Drinkwitz after the Texas A&M game. “He had his best week of practice; he was playing fast and free, and you can tell how tight his coverage was and the way he communicated. There was just different confidence in who he was as a person and as a player.”
Greco is now tied with nine other players in the SEC with two interceptions.
This is talking about Trajan Greco, and he was light out against A&M. It’s good to see younger guys stepping up.
- Meanwhile, Colin delved into three running backs who are all elite runners, and all have come through Missouri:
After recording 104 yards on 23 carries as a freshman at Mizzou, Lacy transferred to Ole Miss, where he rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns on 306 carries last season. He also caught 29 passes for 177 yards, establishing himself as a central part of the Rebels’ offense.
His departure was not driven by bad blood between the two programs. Instead, Lacy saw an opportunity at Ole Miss that he believed could give him a better chance to develop and contribute.
The whole Lacy thing is interesting, because Drinkwitz and Luper have been able to churn out elite rushers. Lacy was one of the few freshmen to get real snaps. He was that good. There’s no surprise that with more carries he’s turned into an elite rusher.
- Are you a gambler? (I hope not don’t it’s bad for your health) If you are, Nathan has your Best Bets on the week:
Florida @ Texas (-10.5)
Speaking of exposed, I think Mizzou did a pretty excellent job of exposing Florida’s soft underbelly to the world two weeks ago. They got housed again last week by a bad South Carolina team at home. Now they get to go to Austin where they will play a doubly motivated Longhorns team. First, this is a revenge game for Texas because Florida beat them last year to keep them out of playoffs. Second, the Horns are coming off a terrible collapse against the Sooners and they are desperately wanting a get-right game. I think that’ll happen Saturday.
Oof, these are two teams I would not want to bet on right now. More power to you if that’s your thing, and brave of Nathan to take that game on. 10 is a big number.
- Sammy is also still tracking the CFP ranking, which unfortunately is still at 16 for now, Missouri is still on the outside looking in, but they could play major spoiler tomorrow:
Ole Miss is 4-1 and ranked No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 after a 52-17 road win over Vanderbilt. Trinidad Chambliss is providing elite quarterback play, but the Rebels rush defense makes them vulnerable. Massive playoff implications for Mizzou vs Ole Miss on Saturday.
BASKETBALL PREVIEWIN’
SEC Previews have been rumbling on, yesterday I got into LSU and their ’what’s old is new again’ head coach Will Wade:
For all the bravado he tries to exhibit, the moment the lights shone in his eyes following the news of his rule breaking hit the presses, Will Wade melted like white chocolate on blacktop in the midst of a Louisiana August.
When the FBI handed over their nonsense case of all these coaches pay for play schemes, trying to tie it into a weird case of defrauding state colleges, Wade disappeared into the shadows like Homer Simpson vanishing into the bushes in the well-known gif. The NCAA eventually handed down a show cause, and we all got to forget about Will Wade for a while. In the aftermath, Wade could have become a champion for NIL and paying players. Sure, he broke the rules, but the rules were already broken and were harming the welfare of the players. It’s an easy argument to make. But he didn’t stand up. He disappeared.
I don’t like the guy, what can I say. You can keep track of all the preseason content with our Story Stream here!
- Over on ROCKM.PLUS you can also check out @DataMizzou’s piece on how Dennis Gates can make his roster workwith so many forwards and so few guards:
t’s not JUST about Mizzou’s backcourt, mind you. When you look at this roster from ten thousand feet you get a feeling that Mizzou is brimming at the gills with wings and power forwards. Where is everyone else you may ask? How will Mizzou realize their high level of potential with such an unbalanced roster in a traditional sense? Can this work? We’re going to dive into those concerns and more today.
Watkins is making most of these preseason pieces free to all.
