The Ravens got some very, very good news on Tuesday: star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike is trending towards a return to the field this year
. Here are Baltimore Beatdown’s reactions to the latest update:Between today’s news and Lamar Jackson’s 2023 extension, the Ravens have a knack for getting good news during draft week. Madubuike’s potential return may not be on the same level as Jackson’s megadeal, but fans had grown similarly anxious about both situations due to the radio silence from player
and team. Recent workout videos indicated that he was on the right track, but Schefter’s report is the first concrete indicator that the star pass rusher could indeed return to the field in 2026. This is huge for Baltimore’s defense, as Madubuike’s absence virtually collapsed the unit last year. It also makes defensive tackle less of a priority in this week’s draft, though today’s news should not stop Eric DeCosta from targeting the position, either. – Nikhil Mehta
The news that all of us hoped for and many of us suspected with the lack of big defensive tackle moves this offseason. But you simply don’t know until a solid piece of news likes this drops. But now we know, Nnamdi Madubuike will be attempting to play in 2026. Neck injuries are scary, and we truly won’t know until he hits somebody and how his body recovers from it the next day. But in the meantime this is huge news. With a new era of Ravens football ready to begin behind defensive mastermind Jesse Minter, having a talent like Madubuike to use as a weapon is massive. With Madubuike returning to pair with Travis Jones on the front lines with newly-signed Trey Hendrickson and emerging Mike Green on the outside, rhe Ravens pass rush has a real chance to be an elite, playoff-caliber rush unit. Above all, it’s extraordinary news to Madubuike and his family that he has a chance to continue doing something he loves. – Zach Canter
Ravens fans received some very good news this morning. Nnamdi Madubuike, whose status has been kept silent for most of the last year as he continues to recover from a serious neck injury, has reportedly been given the green light from doctors to resume playing football. The Pro-Bowl defensive tackle underwent neck surgery last week and now has his eyes set on the upcoming season. It’s a massive development for the Ravens as Madubuike has proven to be one of the elite defensive tackles in the NFL when healthy. While numerous things were wrong with the Ravens last year, it was clear that the loss of their star defensive tackle had a massive ripple effect through their defense. With Hendrickson, Jones, Green, and now Madubuike, the Ravens should figure to have an elite front line again that can generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Nothing is completely official yet, but this is very encouraging news and immediately reduces the need for the Ravens to reach on a pass rusher in the draft. – Stephen Bopst
While I will continue to hold my breath until I actually see Madubuike on the field again, this is an extremely encouraging update. First of all, I am happy for Nnamdi if he is truly able to continue living his dream of playing football in what should be the prime of his career. Second, Madubuike’s return would be an enormous boost to a defense that severely lacked pass rush juice last season. Adding Trey Hendrickson and getting one of the best defensive tackles back to go with Travis Jones and a Year 2 Mike Green should do wonders for Baltimore’s ability to affect quarterbacks. Travis Jones has to be the biggest winner after all of this, as he should be freed up much more to wreck shop along the interior. – Dustin Cox
