Plenty of good things are happening with Missouri Football right now. All things considered, the status of this program is currently in a great spot.
Through seven games, Mizzou is 6-1 and ranked No. 15 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. The Tigers are in the College Football Playoff mix and are looking for three straight 10-win seasons for the first time in program history. Missouri is also well-positioned to land a Top 25 recruiting class for the third consecutive year. Needless to say, Eli Drinkwitz has done a phenomenal job.
We might be in-season mode right now, but it is also coaching carousel season. The Penn State and Florida jobs are officially open and like it or not — Eli Drinkwitz’s name has been linked to both teams. Though, that’s bound to happen with the way he’s elevated this Mizzou program. He’s a candidate at big-time schools for a reason.
The Penn State noise is interesting because Drinkwitz has been able to land QBs Beau Pribula, Matt Zollers, and even Gavin Sidwar from the state of Pennsylvania. Though, would it make sense to jump from the SEC to the Big Ten?
Then there’s Florida. Per ESPN, winning a national championship with the Gators could be enticing.
Drinkwitz likes Missouri, which has shown him a stronger commitment over time, but if he wants to win a national championship, he could seek a move to a program like Florida.
There hasn’t been much buzz on Arkansas as it would almost certainly be a step down — but I guess you can’t rule out the Razorbacks trying to get Drinkwitz to return to his home state.
This isn’t to say that Eli Drinkwitz is leaving. After all, he and Missouri have agreed to a contract extension through 2029. Though, the unfortunate possibility of him taking another job is there.
In our latest SBN Reacts survey, we ask you this: Which program is the biggest threat to potentially hire Eli Drinkwitz? Is it Penn State, Florida, Arkansas, or other?
Or … he just stays at Mizzou because he likes it here.
