Barcelona’s hopes of signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid seem to be dwindling as we head towards the close of the transfer window but it seems the club haven’t given up hope entirely.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona are still thinking of Alvarez and won’t forget about him. The reports adds that Hansi Flick and Deco are both “willing to wait until the end of the summer window for Alvarez” and will jump at any chance to land the Argentina star.

and news that Barca “will extend the deadline they had set for themselves” to sign Alvarez. Barca feel Atletico have a real problem with Alvarez, after he was whistled by supporters, and are willing to be patient. The report adds that Barca could even try for the striker again in January if he doesn’t move this summer.
The consensus certainly seems to be it’s Alvarez or nothing. The Athletic add that “there is a strong chance Barca will sign no new striker if they can’t get Alvarez” as “there are hardly any available options that convince all the decision-makers and improve the current squad.”
Diario Sport are also reporting that Barcelona “won’t sign a stopgap option” this summer. Barca don’t want to make a rash decision and have decided “they are not willing to pay an inordinate amount for a striker without guarantees.”
Barcelona are well aware they do have plenty of attacking options in the squad already and know that things could well have changed in the transfer market by January when the window will reopen once again.
