We have the second semifinal this afternoon, and in this one it’s England taking on Argentina. This matchup has…history. A lot of history, both on the field and off. But on the field, the rivalry is renewed as one team will book their place in the World Cup final against Spain on Sunday.
England had to fight to beat Norway over 120 minutes in the quarterfinal to get here, but they have had inspired play by Jude Bellingham, whose brace was the difference against the Norwegians. They’re starting to feel
like this could be the year for them to claim their first World Cup title since 1966, but they have a big assignment ahead of them: stop Argentina and Lionel Messi.
Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 in the quarterfinals to get to this point, but once again there was some controversy surrounding their win. Despite that, Lionel Messi continues to pace Argentina with his scoring and goal creations, and Argentina are quite dangerous. With the scene of Atlanta set for the renewal of this rivalry, we look to see which team will move on to the final to take on Spain and which will have to settle for Miami and the 3rd place match against France.
