Kentucky Football brought back the Power K… in the homecoming game… with a top-10 LSU Tigers squad coached by Lane Kiffin coming to Kroger Field… and picked up another overtime win!
What a night it was at Kroger Field!
The Cats looked to be doomed multiple times in the fourth quarter after missing two field goals that would have tied the game, but Kentucky’s defense stepped up in big moments and got the ball back. Kenny Minchey drove Kentucky down the field, and the third time was the charm as the Cats tied it
at 27 to go to overtime.
After LSU scored in just a couple plays, CJ Baxter found the end zone, and Will Stein rolled the dice again by going for two. The dice rolled Kentucky’s way again, as the sea parted in the end zone and Kenny Minchey ran right in to give Kentucky the win.
Kentucky now sits at 5-1, and that win against South Carolina last week looks a little better after the Gamecocks handled Florida in Gainesville yesterday.
It is almost certain that we will see Kentucky back in the top 25 today after falling out of the rankings last week despite beating South Carolina on the road. The Cats did, however, make the top 25 in the Coaches Poll, coming in at #25.
On3’s Thomas Goldkamp projects Kentucky will move to #19in the AP Poll. Chip Patterson from CBS also predicts Kentucky will land at 19 in the poll.
Brett McMurphy from On3 has Kentucky taking a huge leap, jumping to #12, and ESPN’s Heather Dinich placed Kentucky 12th in her College Football Playoff projections. Bleacher Report has Kentucky at 16th overall.
Oh, and CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford has Kentucky making the College Football Playoff as an 11-seed facing 6-seed Indiana.
That’s right — Will Stein and Kentucky have entered the CFP zone. The Wildcats are 5-1 this season with consecutive 35-34 overtime wins, the latest coming against 10th-ranked LSU. It’s a devastating loss for the Tigers, who drop out of the CFP mix this week and are one loss away from being out of it altogether.
The Hoosiers tied Ohio State’s Big Ten record with its 22nd straight win, and Curt Cignetti improved to 27-0 at Indiana against unranked teams following Saturday’s comeback at Nebraska. The 20-17 victory may have told us more about the Huskers than it did the Hoosiers, who have narrowly escaped two Big Ten opponents to stay unblemished ahead of next weekend’s mammoth battle against Ohio State.
We’ll see where Kentucky comes in later today. Where do you think Kentucky will be ranked?
