Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know about as Big Blue gets set for to clash with the Washington Commanders.
A-Plus: Abdul Carter, Arvell Reese show glimpse of being dynamic Giants duo | New York Daily News
The Giants might have to start calling them their “A-Plus” duo of athletic pass rushing linebackers: Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese. Carter, 23, recorded 14 pass rush wins off the edge, the most by any player in any game this season, per ESPN analytics, plus three tackles and three quarterback hits. He also generated a career-high nine pressures on 37 pass rushes,
per NextGen Stats. Eight of those pressures came within 2.5 seconds, which is the most quick pressures created by any player in a game this season.
“It was pretty good today,” Carter said of the Giants’ pass rush, which recorded two sacks. “But I feel like we can get even more than we had today. Gotta keep going, keep getting after it.”

Why Giants didn’t use the ‘J.J. McCarthy package’ after manipulating roster | New York Post
By activating McCarthy instead of declaring him the emergency No. 3 quarterback, the Giants could have inserted him into the game at any point rather than only if their first two quarterbacks were out for the game.
“We had enough guys playing special teams, and it just gave us an option in case we wanted to put J.J. out there to run certain plays that we had prepared for him,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “But to think that he was going to be the backup for the whole game was unrealistic. So we had Jake up, too, and that was our thinking. We just felt like we needed three guys for kind of the two roles.”

Did Jameis Winston do enough to keep the starting job? This is the up-and-down Winston experience that is expected. Yes, there were two ugly interceptions. But there were also some “Wow!” throws and three touchdown passes. It was his 20th career three-touchdown game. He went 18-of-29 for 250 yards. It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough to produce a victory for the second straight week. Winston has been adamant about being judged on wins and losses. This probably bought him some more time with J.J. McCarthy waiting in the wings.

Grade: C+. Jameis Winston isn’t like other backup quarterbacks. He’s a former No. 1 overall pick, with extensive starting experience. His performances can be a wild ride, but he has the ability to make all of the throws and move an offense. He’s also the type of quarterback, who loves to live on the edge and attempt throws that will hurt his team as often as they help.
The full “Jameis Winston experience” occurred Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. In the end, the Giants found a way to win and improve to 3-1. Meanwhile, Winston’s confidence is building. “I’m heating up. And I’m starting to get better, better and better,” said Winston. “Last week, I was questioning if I can even throw. This week, I got people talking about the Jameis Winston experience again.”

O’Connor: Undermanned Giants land in first place by playing with the spirit of ’86 | The Athletic
Asked if the presence of the 1986 Giants served as an additional source of motivation, Harbaugh replied, “I don’t know. … I don’t think anybody was thinking that because they were so locked in on the football. But now that you mention it that they were here, it makes me really proud, what they represented, that they could watch a football game like that.
“Even though it wasn’t the most beautiful game as far as (being) played perfectly, it was a winning game. The heart, the determination, and handling pressure — all those things.”
