So far, the summer transfer rumor mill has actually made a whole lot of sense. Juventus need a new starting goalkeeper? Here are two of the better options potentially on the market who currently call the Premier League home. Need a new striker? Randal Kolo Muani sure would love to come back to Turin.
See? All of it makes sense.
Then, as we are all preparing to go into the weekend, La Gazzetta dello Sport drops this on us:
As Paulo Dybala continues to talk about a potential contract extension with Roma,
the old pink paper in Italy has thrown out there that Juventus have been in contact with La Joya’s reps over the possibility of a return to Turin this summer on a free transfer. The call between the two sides is being described as “exploratory” — and even as that is said who really knows the validity of it.
But, let’s face it: it’s a juicy little rumor that involves Juventus and their former No. 10, one of the most beloved player to wear the famous black and white stripes over the course of the past decade.
Roma and Dybala have been trying to finalize a one-year contract extension with a salary around €3 million — a far cry from what he was making during his final season with Juventus in 2021-22 before he left on a free transfer and headed to the Italian capital. Of course, Dybala is in a different stage of his career now as a soon-to-be 33-year-old oft-injured forward who only played in 22 Serie A games last season, the lowest number he has posted since the 2020-21 campaign with Juventus. His 1,354 minutes in league play was the lowest of his career.
But as Dybala proved with his assist on Roma’s Champions League-clinching goal on the final day of the 2025-26 season, he’s still got some class in that fragile body of his. Who knows how often that may be, but it’s still there.
Am I suddenly expecting Dybala to be wearing bianconero again come August? No, not really. Juventus may need multiple new strikers this summer, but Dybala doesn’t really fit the kind of profile that this team needs — especially with his health being such a giant question mark most of the time.
We can have a little fun with these crazy rumors every once in a while, though, right? It’s the summer and Juventus’ transfer activity has been slow with the sudden front office change at the top. Gazzetta threw us this piece of meat, so let’s go ahead and gnaw on it a little bit as we head into a weekend that will be dominated about what is going on at the World Cup.
