The Cleveland Browns have numerous roster holes to fill as part of their “critical 120-day plan” to improve the franchise.
The team “only” needs to find four, possibly five, starters along the offensive line, pick up at least one wide receiver who can catch the ball on a regular basis, and take yet another shot at fixing the ongoing mess at the quarterback position.
As luck would have it, general manager Andrew Berry said the Browns are planning for a “heavy investment” on the offensive side of the ball.
That will obviously take the form of free agency filling some of the holes, and then utilizing as many of the team’s 10 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft as needed to close any remaining gaps.
Following the conclusion of Sunday’s playoff games, most notably the loss by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Browns now know they will be selecting in the first round. Cleveland will be up at No. 6 overall (their own pick) and then again at No. 24 (Jacksonville’s pick) thanks to last year’s draft-day trade with the Jaguars.
There is little to no chance the Browns can combine those picks to move up for a quarterback in a class that has a clear top choice in Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, who will almost certainly go to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 1.
After Mendoza, there is a second tier of quarterbacks with questions, including Oregon’s Dante Moore (who may return to Oregon after a poor showing against Indiana), Alabama’s Ty Simpson (who really should be returning to school after a downward trend at the end of the season), Miami’s Carson Beck (please no), and Mississippi’s Trininad Chambliss (who is still fighting the NCAA in a bid to stay in school one more year).
However, the Browns will have options, as they currently hold four picks among the first 107 selections in the draft and six of the top 150 selections, according to the projected draft order from tankathon.com.
The full list of Cleveland’s picks:
- Round 1: No. 6 overall
- Round 1: No. 24 overall (from Jacksonville)
- Round 2: No. 39 overall
- Round 3: No. 70 overall
- Round 4: No. 107 overall
- Round 5: No. 140 overall (from Las Vegas)
- Round 5: No. 145 overall
- Round 5: No. 148 overall (from Cincinnati)
- Round 6: No. 205 overall (from Chicago)
- Round 7: No. 248 overall (from Seattle)
That should provide Berry with enough draft capital to add more pieces to the offense as the Browns try to get back to at least a league-average level to pair with one of the game’s best defenses.
