Jamie Gittens has had a tough start to life at Chelsea after his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund this summer, with zero goals and zero assists to his name in seven appearances thus far — and only
three of those seven appearances starts, which is perhaps the most telling stat of all. He’s not been involved much, and when he has been, he hasn’t made much impact.
But maybe some success away on international duty will help him kickstart his season. The 21-year-old winger got himself a goal against Moldova yesterday as England won, 4-0, in Euro U21 qualifying. And it was a pretty nice goal, too, with Gittens cutting inside from the left and beating the goalkeeper at his near post with a strong shot. Love to see that more!
Tyrique George came on for Gittens in the second half while Josh Acheampong played most of the game in central defense.
Elsewhere, Malo Gusto won his fifth cap for France as Les Bleus beat Azerbaijan, 3-0, while yesterday, Estêvão put in an impressive shift for Brazil in their friendly against South Korea, scoring twice and leaving to a standing ovation late in the second half.
Unlike Gittens, Estêvão has hit the ground running, and hopefully he can keep building on his excellent start.
G’wan, kid!
