Rutgers football lost its 2025 homecoming game to No.8 Oregon in blowout fashion, as the Ducks (6-1, 3-1) handed the Scarlet Knights (3-4, 0-4) a 56-10 loss in front of a sold-out crowd.
Rutgers’ defense continued to struggle, as the Ducks’ stout passing attack exploited them. Several times, Oregon’s wide receivers were left wide open with no one to contest their catches. This led to Oregon quarterback Dante Moore throwing 15 completions on 20 passes for 290 yards and four touchdowns. Oregon backup
quarterback Brock Thomas, who was put in the game when it was well out of reach, threw three completions on four passes for 45 yards. Both Oregon passers averaged over 11 yards per attempt. Tight End Kenyon Sadiq was the premier pass catcher for Oregon in this game, as he hauled in 4 catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Ducks wide receiver Dakorien Moore also ripped the Knights’ defense a few times, catching two passes for 63 yards and one touchdown. Rutgers’ pass rush failed to do its job as well, as Moore faced very little pressure all game long.
Oregon’s running back room also had a stellar day, as they bulldozed the Knights’ run defense for 415 yards and another four touchdowns. Most of these rush attempts weren’t some clever scheme or trickery used to deceive the defense; they were simple runs to the outside that the Knights could not stop. Both Noah Whittington and Jordan Davison had long runs of 65+ yards.
Oregon totaled 750 yards of offense on the day, the most yardage Rutgers has allowed in a Big Ten game. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a few arguments among the defensive backs on the field.
On offense, it was like they ran into a wall. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis only completed 8 passes on 25 attempts for 79 yards and two interceptions. Those would be the only passing yards the Knights picked up on the day.
The running game wasn’t much better for Rutgers. Both Antwan Raymond and Ja’Shon Benjamin had 18 carries for the Knights. Benjamin recorded 69 yards and one touchdown, while Raymond recorded 55 yards on the day. Rutgers needs strong performances from their offense to win games, especially with how poor the defense has been. However, in this game, nothing they tried worked.
Rutgers will hit the road next week to take on Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana. The game is scheduled for noon EST and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
