Andree Jeglertz takes his in-form Manchester City down the M62 to face struggling Liverpool as they seek to keep up with Chelsea at the top of the WSL. City could go top, depending on results elsewhere in the WSL, which would give a morale boost in their final WSL match before the international break.
City have been in fine form since their opening day defeat at Chelsea, winning all their subsequent matches to take them to within a point of the champions, and the Blues go into the match on the back
of a thrilling 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Joie Stadium last weekend.
They face a Liverpool side who are already in trouble, having lost all four of their WSL matches so far and only sit above West Ham at the bottom of the table on goal difference. Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor will obviously have something to prove when he faces his old club for the first time
Taylor’s side left it late to lose 1-0 away to London City Lionesses last weekend and a visit from City is probably the last thing they would have liked to see, other than Chelsea arriving, of course! They have lost twice at home this season, 4-1 to Everton and 2-0 to Manchester United and Taylor will have to do something soon if he doesn’t want his job to be under threat again.
Team News
Liverpool have a few injury concerns ahead of the Blues’ visit. Lucy Parry and Lily Woodham have suffered hamstring injuries and may miss the match, while goalkeeper Rachael Laws is still out with a hand injury sustained in August. Leanne Kiernan will face a late fitness test and Risa Shimizu, ironically signed by Taylor for City, will miss out as she is on loan from her parent club.
City are still without Lauren hemp and Kerolin after both were injured in the 5-1 win at Spurs last month. Rebecca Knaak is in training but won’t be fit enough for the trip to Merseyside whilst Mary Fowler continues her recovery from and ACL injury.
Prediction
City are flying high and are the direct opposite of Liverpool at the moment. The Reds will pick up points this season, but I don’t think it will be today and I’m predicting it will be another miserable afternoon for Gareth Taylor.
