We already knew that Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving had been ruled out for Tampa Bay’s Week 5 tilt with the Seattle Seahawks due to a foot sprain. On Sunday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the foot sprain isn’t
the only injury Irving is dealing with — it’s just the only one the Buccaneers were aware of until this past Tuesday.
Subluxation is a partial joint dislocation. My chihuahua/Jack Russell mix has patellar subluxation in both of his back legs, so his kneecaps pop out of place randomly. Dogs are pretty adaptable and his subluxation has resolved on its own within a couple of minutes since he was a puppy. But there’s no shot he could play in the NFL with this condition, and I don’t know how or when Irving got this injury, but if he’s played through it at all, he’s an Ironman.
So far this season, Irving has played in all four games, totaling 237 yards on 71 carries, and 19 catches for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He is expected to miss at least two games with the shoulder injury. With the bye coming up in Week 9, it’s also possible they hold him out until Week 10 to give him a chance to get back to full strength.
With both Mike Evans and Irving out this week against the Seahawks, this is a depleted offense. Emeka Egbuka has been pretty much otherworldly this season, and Chris Godwin and Cade Otton will be under more pressure with Evans out. On the ground, backup Rachaad White will likely be the primary back for the Bucs against the Seahawks. White has 23 carries for 108 yards and a touchdown so far this season.
