Anthony Joshua has released his first statement since being a passenger in a car crash that killed two of his close friends in Nigeria.
In late December, Joshua suffered minor injuries in the crash, while
Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, members of Joshua’s team and close confidants, were killed.
On Thursday, Joshua released a statement paying tribute to Ghami and Ayodele, while also thanking the boxing community for their support.
“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers,”Joshua wrote on Instagram. “I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.
“100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
The accident occurred days after Joshua knocked out Jake Paul in their December boxing match in Miami. According to BBC, Joshua was on his way to visit relatives to celebrate the new year when the incident happened. The report also stated that the driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was charged in court, including charges for causing death by dangerous driving, according to police.
