The No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats volleyball team picked up one of their biggest wins of the season on Sunday afternoon. The highly anticipated SEC matchup did not go as No. 2 Texas had planned, as the Wildcats silenced
Gregory Gym with a 3-0 sweep of the Longhorns.
The Wildcats started hot and never looked back. Craig Skinner’s Cats took the first set from the Longhorns 25-14 after taking the opening set. They took the first set without an attacking error, going against the Wildcats.
The second set was a tough one for the Cats, but they grinded out a huge set win. There were 11 ties in the set before the Wildcats fought off a 10-1 Longhorns run to take the second set with a final score of 28-26.
In what was the final set of the afternoon, the Longhorns started the third set quickly, but the Wildcats came back late to seal the statement win. The Wildcats won the final set, 27-25.
Kentucky has extended its SEC winning streak to 22 matches with Sunday’s road win over the Longhorns. This was only the Cats’ second win over the Horns since 1994. This was Texas’s first three-set loss at home since 2023.
