OK, my ears must hear different things than the broadcasters who say, “Look at what Jeff Hafley is building. Just wait until he gets the players!” They didn’t say, “Let’s aspire to be the Green Bay Packers! The ACME of NFL franchises.” I have a question: be TOTALLY honest and don’t cheat! What does the word ACME actually mean? Don’t cheat! Be honest with your answers, which will make things funnier in the comments! To end my digression: go see Coyote vs Acme!!!!
The New Packers???
Back to aspiring
to be the Green Bay Packers! What the hell has the Green Bay Packers organization done since winning the Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers in 2011? Yes, 2011! Is that what we want to aspire to? Really, we were whipping their asses when Tua injured his noggin for the 8th time. I don’t get it. Maybe I don’t understand the goal? Would you rather be the NY Giants and win 2 Super Bowls with Eli but suffer 11 years of mediocrity in return, or be the KC Chiefs under Schottenheimer and go 11-5 every year but never even SNIFF the Super Bowl? The Phins were once like that too, and the stadium in the 80s used to flash these graphics showing the Phins were the most successful sports franchise ever! Highest winning percentage! Ha! Those were the days. And don’t forget we lost 2 AFC Championships at home under Marino. But with #13 we were never out of the game. And that, right there, keeps me faithful. I keep hearing that the GB cap situation is good, blah blah blah. What does that have to do with winning Super Bowls?
Phincidents!
I am watching what the Saints did with Drew Brees and Sean Payton. It eats me alive; I must admit. I also remember a classic episode of South Park in 2004 where Cartman dons a cardboard box pretending to be a robot called Awesome-O. During the episode, Awesome-O is asked: “Who’s gonna win the Super Bowl?” Awesome-O answers, “The New Orleans Saints,” to mocking laughter from the crowd and me at the time. Guess what? Awesome-O was correct, just like the Coyote during his trial!
Devon Godchaux (Miami Dolphins 5th round pick 2017) is still playing for the Saints! Wow! God Bless Him! Laissez les bon temps rouler! And the halftime show! Wowwie wow Wow! says the Continental! Was he Cajun?
Back to this coaching staff: I have heard some strange statements like “Miami has trouble covering TEs.” This is untrue and gives too much credit to the Phins. The statement should be “Miami has never heard of the TE position and doesn’t believe that it exists.” I have never watched a game or heard of a game where the TE was targeted 14 times(whatever) and every target was caught (until Sunday). Is this what Coach Hafley is bringing to the Phins? This is a pure unadulterated embarrassment. On the last 3rd down play, I was screaming, “Don’t fall for the brush block and drift garbage that was taught to me in 1974.” I thought the great Green Bay standard bearer Jeff Hafley would have done SOMETHING to slow down this average TE. He isn’t Gronk, Jason Witten, Tony Gonzalez, or even Russ Francis (look him up). Where is the “secret sauce” that Hafley is bringing; where are the stratagems! I have played in hundreds of pick-up games where I would “bird dog” that play and bait the QB into throwing that pass. But my God, he would have scored in a “tag” game. How can we take this organization seriously when they don’t know what a TE is? Do they cover TEs in Green Bay? Is that something they teach in year two of the rebuild? Do they play special teams in Green Bay? The word is out on the street: the Phins special teams play is hot garbage, and there are opportunities to exploit. The TE position on the opposing team is the Road Runner, and we’re never gonna catch him.
