The news no one wanted this Monday flashed across phones earlier this afternoon that Kewan Lacy sustained a dislocated shoulder during the Texas game and will be out against Auburn.
The junior running back who has electrified Ole Miss crowds in his season and a half playing for the Rebels could be out for more time than that, but head coach Pete Golding said MRI results and other tests are still to be evaluated.
Lacy has rushed for 388 yards and five touchdowns this season after totaling more than
1,500 yards last year. He experienced a different shoulder injury during the Florida game that knocked him out of that contest.
The assumption has to be that Makhi Frazier, JT Lindsey and Shekai Mills-Knight are going to be splitting the carries for at least one weekend. Frazier has had some very solid play with SMK certainly earning himself a look as well.
It’s clear Lacy is pretty banged up at this point in the season. If there is the potential for a College Football Playoff berth, it would be nice to have him on the shelf for as long as possible to get healthy. What we don’t know is if the scans and tests come back saying he needs to be done for the year how that will impact the season going forward.
Absolutely this is some bad news, and the only silver lining is the team has played some significant time without Lacy in the backfield already. All Rebel fans can do now is hold their breath and hope for the best for its star running back.
