The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving tight end E.J. Jenkins, according to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo
.Jenkins was a surprise inclusion on the Eagles’ roster back in late August when the team went from the offseason limit of 90 players down to the regular season limit of 53.
To this point, Jenkins had served as a third or fourth tight end on game days. With zero targets in 67 offensive snaps played over six games, Jenkins contributed as a blocker in addition to helping out on special teams.
Jenkins’ dismissal could be related to the Eagles running out of practice squad elevations for franchise legend Zach Ertz. Perhaps the team is planning to sign Ertz to the roster while bringing back Jenkins on the practice squad, assuming he clears waivers. The Eagles could then use Jenkins’ three temporary elevations to still get him involved in game action for a few weeks.
We’ll see what corresponding roster move(s) follow this report. For now, the Eagles only have Dallas Goedert and Johnny Mundt at tight end on the 53-man roster.
