Before he conglomerates with Team Briscoe tonight (Sun., June 28) in San Jose, California, Darby Allin got married. We’re guessing the ceremony took place somewhere between the Northern Cali city where Forbidden Door takes place this evening and Allin’s home state of Washington. We know it featured many of Allin’s friends and colleagues from AEW, and was very true to what we know about Darby — and Sam Ratsch, the man behind the character that his new wife Sara met on a bus in high school years ago.
Our favorite bit was pulled from Swerve Strickand’s Instagram Story, and is being shared around the wrestle web widely today. In it, the groom brings an older man who is reportedly Darby’s dad onto the “dance floor”, where Allin helps him get topless and Brody King chops the bejesus out of him. He refuses a follow-up slam, moving off in pain as hardcore blares over the speaks and his son and the assembled crowd laughs. AEW head honcho Tony Khan can be seen in the background with sunglasses on, just smiling at the whole scene.
In another clip, a woman said to be Allin’s mom answers the call when he wants to celebrate the day by being slammed onto thumbtacks.
Having known Darby/Sam for years, and accepting the proposal he made from the top of Mount Everest, Sara seems overjoyed in the midst of the wild scenes. She also looked gorgeous in her lace gown with see-through bodice. Her now-husband looked dapper with his iconic tattoos drawn onto his tuxedo, which he wore with an open-collared dress shirt.
Congrats to the happy couple. Hopefully Darby won’t do anything too crazy in the steel cage main event at Forbidden Door, and be fully functional for his honeymoon. Where the bride and groom will play Mario Kart, of course.
