Yes, it has come down to this once again. After nearly avoiding a four-game sweep from the Phillies last week, the Atlanta Braves are down by two against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Can Bryce Elder help them overcome this fate?
Let’s take a look at these pitching matchups.
Elder’s last outing was just last Friday against the Phillies. Pitching a deep seven innings and only giving up one run and three hits. A pretty solid performance for Elder that unfortunately didn’t result in a win (1-2)…maybe
this game will make up for it if the Braves get the same Elder that showed up last week, and if the bats are awake and ready.
And for our opponent?
Cade Hornton boasts a 2.92 ERA and a whip of 1.19 for this season with a 9-4 win-loss record in his mound appearances. His four-seamer and sweeper are the main stars of the show in his five-pitch arsenal, and just as a rookie, he is already making noise with talks of Rookie of the Year surrounding his name.
He arrived in the big leagues in May and was a reliable asset for the team when they needed him. He is also now 6-1 with a 0.86 ERA post All-Star Game.
Will he be seeing the postseason? Many seem to think so.
But, as for tonight, the question is, will the Braves’ offense be ready for him on the Cubs’ home turf?
We will find out soon.
First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET
