Hannah Camenzind found herself both atop the batting order and in the circle as Jordy Frahm was given a game off to take in some sun and offer emotional support while treating herself to a buffet of dugout snacks and watch the Huskers take care of business in her absence from the lineup.
Now, I don’t know if she actually did any of those things, and I’m positive Camenzind didn’t say, “Hold my beer and watch this,” but maybe she should have.
All Hannah did was equal or surpass a damn good Jordy impression.
At the plate, she went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI’s and scored a run of her own for good measure. A doubles machine for Nebraska in 2025, she is continuing to pick up where she left off in ‘26. Both shots today went the opposite way as she frequently does when going with the pitch. And as for her work in the circle – did her performance match expectations?
Is a no-hitter good enough?
I guess we’ll call that making the most of your opportunity. Yes, the Hawaii order is not that threatening, and, yes, the game was shortened to 5 innings, courtesy of the offensive battering which both Huskers starters and reserves laid on the the Rainbow Wahine, the nickname given to Hawaii’s women’s teams.
And to that, I say who cares – like trying to go shot-for-shot with Andre the Giant, if it was easy, then everyone would do it.
As for the bats? Let’s just say Hawaii players spent a good portion of the day with their necks craned skyward. Talia Tokheim, getting a start in left, and twin sister Lauren joined with Hannah with multi-hit afternoons. 6 of Nebraska’s 13 went for extra bases including 2 home runs, one by Jesse Farrell and the other by Malia Thoms, the Waverly junior who came off the bench to torch a shot over the right field wall.
The Camenzind twins ripped 4 of those 6 extra-base hits with a pair of doubles each while Ava Kuszak added a triple to her home run in the opener. Coach Rhonda Revelle did her best not to pour it on by getting seven non-starters into the contest either at the plate, in the field or both.
And with Hannah Camenzind putting up an MVP day to lead the charge, Revelle and Frahm got to finish a stress-free day and rest up for the Aggies on Saturday.
Speaking of those Aggies, the Huskers will resume play tomorrow night at 7pm CST against the aTm. That will be followed by a pair of games Sunday against Seattle University and California.
