The Wisconsin Badgers won one of their biggest recruiting battles of the 2027 cycle on Wednesday, as they got a commitment from four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams, he announced.
Williams, a native of Florida, had been on a visit to Madison this past weekend and accelerated his timeline for a commitment to Wednesday. He had previously been committed to the Florida State Seminoles and was expected to take a visit there this weekend, but he de-committed from the program on Sunday following his visit to Wisconsin.
Williams was also seeing strong interest from the Nebraska Cornhuskers and LSU Tigers, who were expected to get visits during the weekends of June 12th and June 19th, respectively. Ahead of his commitment, he had listed Wisconsin, Nebraska, and LSU as his final three schools.
But the Badgers did a great job this weekend and were able to lock down Williams’s commitment after the four-star was a priority for Wisconsin for quite some time.
Williams is ranked the No. 107 recruit in the Class of 2027 by 247Sports, making him the highest-rated commit for the Badgers in the cycle and the seventh four-star or composite four-star commit.
The Badgers have valued length and speed at the cornerback position, and the four-star provides exactly that at 6’2/6’3 with a track background. He is on the leaner side and will likely need some time to develop his body at the next level, but the Badgers got a huge target to commit to them on Wednesday.
Williams becomes the 17th commit in the class for Wisconsin, whose class continues to trend quite well in the 2027 cycle.
