It didn’t take long for new Golden State Warriors’ center, Al Horford, to show why he’s a perfect fit for the team. The 39-year-old big man seamlessly blended his versatile skill set into the Warriors’ system,
finishing last night’s preseason opener with 3 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a steal in just 14 minutes as Golden State defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 111–103.
After the game, Stephen Curry — who added 14 points in 15 minutes himself — praised Horford for the versatility and balance he brings on both ends of the floor.
Head coach Steve Kerr also praised Horford after the game, explaining what makes the veteran center such a natural fit within the current Warriors roster.
While it’s only the preseason, the early returns from the Warriors’ first game back were promising. They will now try to carry that momentum into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Moody balls out as Warriors win vs Lakers to open preseason
The Warriors beat the Lakers 111-103 to start their 2025-26 preseason, and before you start with the “it’s just preseason” disclaimers, understand what this organization has built. Since 2020-21, Golden State is now 21-4 in exhibition play. That’s an 85% winning percentage in games that supposedly don’t matter, but seem to matter a whole lot to an organization that prides itself on keeping players engaged and ready.
