The Seattle Seahawks’ campaign as defending Super Bowl champions will feature a last dance.
Veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, headed into his second season with the team, told Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein on Friday that the upcoming season will be his 13th and final, citing his family remaining in Dallas as reason.
Lawrence arrived in Seattle last offseason on a three-year, $32.5 million deal that will have no guaranteed money remaining after this upcoming season.
The long-time Cowboy remained a productive player in his first year outside of Dallas, playing and starting 16 games for the NFC’s best team while rotating in for just under 60% of the defensive snaps. It was another strong season for the five-time Pro Bowler, as he collected six sacks, 11 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and, incredibly, two fumble return touchdowns.
Originally a second-round pick, taken 34th overall, by the Cowboys in the 2014 NFL Draft, Lawrence spent the first 12 seasons of his career with them. Despite multiple seasons derailed by injury, Lawrence will retire in the top 10 of the franchise’s all-time sacks list, ranking 10th with 61.5.
The 2025 season brought the veteran his first ring and now, in Lawrence’s final NFL season, he and the Seahawks will look to go back-to-back and send him off into the sunset in style.
