Sam Darnold has received a ton of positive press since leading the Seattle Seahawks to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. Surely, this has been one of the best weeks of Darnold’s
life. However, this has also been a very good week for Darnold’s wallet, as well.
With a Super Bowl appearance, Darnold has secured another $500,000 bonus. And with a Super Bowl win, Darnold would get an additional $1,000,000. So far, Darnold has hit the following incentives in his contract:
- $500,000 for 4,000 regular season passing yards
- $500,000 for a minimum 67.5% completion rate
- $500,000 for finishing top 10 in total offense
Another fun tidbit is that every player on the Seahawks has already earned (1) $58,500 for playing in the Divisional Game and (2) $81,000 for playing in the Conference Championship game. By making the Super Bowl each player has already guaranteed themselves an additional $103,000 paycheck (given to the losing team), which could become $178,000 if the Seahawks end up winning the Super Bowl.
All of this said, it’s not like any of the Seahawks’ players need the extra motivation. Regardless of the paycheck bonuses involved, all 70 players (active roster and practice squad) will be playing their heart and soul out on that field in Santa Clara.
