According to a report from Portuguese outlet The Record (as captured by Sapo via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich told João Palhinha to stay in Portugal amid rumors that he could transfer to Benfica.
Moreover, the report indicates that the deal is in the final stages:
Bayern have given João Palhinha permission to stay in Lisbon and told him he does not have to return to Munich while his move to Benfica is being finalized. The agreement between the clubs is definitive, but there are still a few details being clarified
regarding Palhinha’s release from his Bayern contract. Once that’s complete, the move will be announced, which sources close to the player say it is expected to be resolved soon.
This could be the move that Bayern Munich has been waiting for. While it surely will not result in the kind of fee that the Bavarians originally wanted, it will — at least — close the book on Palhinha’s career in Bavaria.
