The Kansas City Royals not only lost Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, they found out they will be without closer Carlos Estevez for at least a few more weeks. Anne Rogers of MLB.com relayed the news in her most recent article:
Reliever Carlos Estévez has a right rotator cuff strain after he experienced shoulder discomfort in his first rehab appearance on Wednesday and will be shut down for the next three weeks.
Rogers also updated fans on the status of Cole Ragans, who has been diagonsed
with valgus extension overload (VEO), also referred to as “pitcher’s elbow.” Bailey Falter also suffered pitcher’s elbow earlier this season, but has been on rehab assignment since April 15th. Hopefully that means Ragans will not be sidelined too long, but the Royals are not sure yet what will do:
Manager Matt Quatraro didn’t say whether Ragans would be shut down for an extended period of time; the Royals will evaluate Ragans in the coming days to determine the next steps.
Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino expressed disappointment that his worst at-bats of the day came with runners in scoring postion:
On the whole, you have more good at-bats than bad, except the two bad ones came with runners on base in the biggest situations. You try not to focus too much on runners in scoring position, but it matters. It’s the difference between winning and losing, and lately, I’ve been hurting the team when it comes to those things. I just got to be better, and I will be.
Missouri approved a vaguely worded and somewhat mysterious $80 million expenditure in their most recent budget, and some of that money may go to develop infrastructure around the new Royals stadium. A spokesperson for Governor Mike Kehoe spoke to Kacen Bayless of the Kansas City Star about the money:
“While this budget item is not an earmark to the Royals, a portion of the funding could be used to address public infrastructure needs arising from the proposed downtown stadium,“ said spokesperson Gabby Picard. “There are currently no commitments to fund any specific amount of any specific project with this budget item.”
