Sam Hughes sparked the “Prelims” undercard with a dominant performance earlier today (Sat., Sept. 6, 2025) at UFC Paris LIVE on ESPN+ from inside Accor Arena in Paris, France, stopping women’s strawweight prospect Shauna Bannon with a suffocating second-round submission (rear-naked choke).
Hughes wasted no time moving inside and securing a nice takedown in the center of the cage to begin the first round. Bannon offered little defense off her back as “Sampage” kept the pressure up and began to land
some solid ground-and-pound. Hughes eventually locked up a crucifix and scored even more punches and elbows. Bannon was on the ropes.
“Sampage” went back to the well to begin the second frame to land another takedown and force Bannon to play defense. Yet again, Hughes had her way from top position, but this time around she found a way to finish. Bannon was trying to get free as Hughes transitioned to her back and sunk in a tight rear-naked choke. Bannon lasted only a few seconds before tapping.
It was an impressive performance by Hughes who is now 4-1 in her last five trips to the Octagon and has clearly turned a corner in her career. If she can continue to finish fights like Saturday afternoon then “Sampage” could work her way into the strawweight top 15 in short time.
