Newcastle United and Manchester United are reportedly tracking the same defenseman from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Football Insider, both Premier League clubs are monitoring Norway international Julian Ryerson, aiming to make a move for the lad before next season.
For Newcastle, any approach may depend on internal decisions regarding the expiring Kieran Trippier’s deal and the likely sale of Tino Livramento to Manchester City.
Ryerson, 28, has recorded 14 assists
across all competitions, including 11 in the Bundesliga in just 22 appearances through Tuesday.
Ryerson’s attacking output has placed him among the league’s most productive defenders, but Dortmund’s financial position could play a role in his exit from the Bundesliga.
Bild reported that the club stands to lose up to £27 million following their Champions League exit, increasing the possibility of player sales to balance accounts.
Football Insider’s report says that Dortmund could sanction a Ryerson sale for around £26 million. Barcelona have also been linked to the Norwegian, but as always, a move to the Premier League is considered the best available for the defender.
That said, no formal offers have been reported, and while both English clubs will keep monitoring Ryerson and most other breathing players, BVB’s plans might not align with the Magpies’ and the Red Devils’ desires
