Bayern Munich has announced the loan of young striker Gibson Adu to SpVgg Unterhaching:
When the winter transfer window opens on 1 January, FC Bayern’s Gibson Adu will go out on loan to SpVgg Unterhaching.
This week, the 17-year-old already started training again in the south of Munich with the Regionalliga club, from whom he moved to the German champions for the 2024/25 season. The striker has penned a contract with FC Bayern until 30 June 2027.
If that seems odd, well, it is because it is. Adu will go back to the club where he spent part of his youth. Tz journalist Philipp Kessler added some context to what might be going on:
Notes for Gibson Adu. The 17-year-old striker of FC Bayern will officially be loaned back to Unterhaching starting in January. He’s already training with the A-youth team of SpVgg today. According to Tz information, it’s an educational measure following several infractions on campus.
This is not Adu’s first rodeo when it comes to disciplinary issues. At Mainz 05, he was rumored to have been let go for similar behavior. While it is difficult to substantiate claims (here is a little more insight), this could be something where the juice is not worth the squeeze.
Hopefully, if maturity is an issue, the kid grows up.
Bayern Munich sputtered into the international break with a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin.
While it was tough watch at times, there is no reason to panic…right? Right?
Right — and let’s talk about why, plus more on the next edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:

- Dayot Upamecano is getting more suitors (Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid) and things are not progressing with Bayern Munich. Are the obstacles too much to overcome? Should they be?
- Would Ibrahima Konaté be a good successor if Upamecano leaves?
