Die Folgen: Bayern’s 4-0 win over Union Berlin (Bavarian Football Works)
Bayern Munich hosted Union Berlin in a match that the Bavarians were surely looking forward to.
After a 2-2 draw in November, Bayern Munich likely wanted another piece of the Iron Ones — and they got a big chunk with a 4-0 victory.
The focus and energy was there was from the outset for the German Rekordmeister as the squad avoided the same flat start it had in Berlin in 2025.
There is much to talk about, so let’s get to it — here are some quick hitters on the match:
- As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI:
- Leon Goretzka got the nod over the injured Aleksandar Pavlović, but this was pretty much what most expected to see for Bayern Munich.
- Harry Kane timed a perfect run and split the center-backs int he 9th minute, but just could not get the ball in. A minute later, impressive youngster Leopold Querfeld stopped a driving Michael Olise to thwart a threat.
- Union Berlin stuck to its gameplan and was compact, but Bayern Munich was much more brave with its dribbling and stretching the field. Both tactics to combat the packed in setup were very effective.
- Karl had a great look in the 16th minute, but caught far too much of the net as Danish goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow had a relatively easy save.
- It was clear that unless Union Berlin was perfect, Bayern Munich was going to eventually break down the Union Berlin defense.
- In the 29th minute, Josip Stanišić sent Lennart Karl a perfect ball, but the youngster inexplicable clanged a wide open shot off the post. What a boner! Surely, the kid will want that one back.
- Olise and Gnabry would each score in a three-minute span to close the first half. It was just the jolt that Bayern Munich needed to totally assert itself in the match. Once the goals happened, you see the air come out of Union Berlin. At that point, any hope the Iron Ones had flickered out.
- It was a solid game in the midfield for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. While not spectacular, the duo just have to direct traffic and seek openings to exploit. Without much of a consistent attacking threat to deal with, Kimmich and Goretzka acted as the driving forces of Bayern’s attack.
- Kane would tack on another goal in the 49th minute to make it 3-0.
- Jonas Urbig was not severely tested in this match, but he continues to impress with his confidence and demeanor. The young goalkeeper is certainly looking the part ofbeing the heir to Manuel Neuer’s throne.
- Konrad Laimer and Stanišić were each very solid on the day. Laimer had the assist on Kane’s goal.
- Tom Bischof checked in at the 61st minute mark, which was good to see. Bischof left the Atalanta match early and it was feared that he might have suffered an injury. Luckily, that does not seem to be the case.
- Gnabry added another goal in the 67th minute to put the final nail in the coffin for this game.
- Erblin Osmani made his debut in the 87th minute. Maycon Cardozo check in with him as well.
- Overall, Bayern Munich was never really threatened was dominant. This is a focused group, who did not let the excitement or distraction of knowing that a big date with Real Madrid was waiting for them get in the way of Bundesliga win. The Bavarians were locked in and continued with their uncanny ability to just continue to score no matter who is in the attack. What a performance…on to SC Freiburg on April 4th.

Eichhorn has long list of suitors (TEAMtalk via ESPN)
Earlier in the week, Bayern Munich was linked to Kennet Eichhorn once again. This time, it was the report essentially said that if Bayern Munich can get Eichhorn, it will make every attempt to make it happen. However; it will be tough given all of the competition expected for the midfielder:
Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn, 16, is the subject of interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Real open to selling Camavinga (ESPN)
At one point, Eduardo Camavinga was considered untouchable at Real Madrid, now…he’s apparently touchable:
Real Madrid are prepared to listen to offers from clubs looking to sign midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer, Marca reports. Several Premier League clubs are reported to have expressed an interest in acquiring the France international’s services, but his transfer will cost upwards of €50 million. Camavinga, 23, has struggled for regular game time this season in the Spanish capital, starting just 12 of Real Madrid’s 21 LaLiga matches.
El Mala says yes to Brighton per report (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Said El Mala has reportedly agreed to a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion:
✅ It is TRUE: Said El Mala has said yes to signing for Brighton. The idea is that the Seagulls could offer €40m [£34.4m] to FC Köln. There was also a bid in the winter of around €30m, but that wasn’t enough for Cologne, as they needed him for the rest of the season. But in the summer, there’s a clearer pathway. Brighton made their offer, which is very attractive for the family! El Mala changed his agent, letting his mother take over. He also has a brother, Malek El Mala. Both brothers wanted to play in the same club – and they can do this at Brighton, as the south coast club also made an offer for Malek. This is the dream! Both can play in England, which is why Brighton are in the lead. I think this transfer will happen.
Barca wants Cancelo if he’s free (ESPN)
If former Bayern Munich outside-back João Cancelo is available for free, FC Barcelona would be interested:
Barcelona are highly likely to sign João Cancelo if it is possible to do so on a free transfer, reports Diario Sport, with the full-back on loan from Al Hilal. The 31-year-old’s contract with the Saudi Pro League club runs until 2027 but the Portugal international would be willing to give up a significant portion of his salary to permanently join Barça following his second loan at the Catalan club.
Bayern scoping Ben Farhat (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
Bayern Munich could be taking a close look at Louey Ben Farhat, a forward for Karlsruher SC:
✅ It is TRUE: Bayern Munich are keeping an eye on Louey Ben Farhat. Scouts from the club attended the 3-3 draw between Karlsruher and Dresden (in which Ben Farhat scored). They think he’s an interesting option for the club. He’s 19 years old, so a player they can develop, and one who won’t expect regular minutes in the first team. He could be interesting, but at the moment, Bayern want to first sort out the right-back position, then backup for Luis Diaz, and if there’s money left after all of this, this could be an interesting option behind Harry Kane. If it doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world, as Bayern have secured a new contract with Serge Gnabry. In the minds of the Bayern bosses, Gnabry is currently considered Kane’s backup.
