For the third-time in their careers, former Protoshita teammates Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita had a singles match tonight (July 8) on Dynamite Beach Break from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was for the AEW International championship match that Takeshita took from his former and Fletcher’s current Don Callis Family teammate Kazuchika Okada.
As you’d expect from… pretty much every match The Protostar and The Alpha have had with anyone in recent years, this one was the proverbial banger.
Callis started on commentary, but got involved to distract his former client a time or two. It didn’t directly factor into the finish, which saw Fletcher survive the champ’s Raging Fire finisher by getting his foot on the ropes, and Takeshita kicking out of a sheerdrop brainbuster. He did not kick out of this one, which spiked him headfirst on the top turnbuckle.
Don and The Family joined the new International champ after he added the title back to Mark Davis’ AEW National and Kevin Knight’s TNT belts. More on that in a moment.
