Dynamite airs tonight (Aug. 20) with a taped show from OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. This is the final episode of Dynamite during the six week build to Forbidden Door, which takes place on Sunday (August 24).
Edge & Christian have something to say about finally reuniting in AEW
FTR’s restraining order against Adam Copeland was lifted last week when Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler attacked him in order to protect their manager Stokely Hathaway. Just when it looked like Cope was about to become one of Stokely’s hoes via a spike piledriver, Christian Cage ran down to the ring
with Adam’s signature weapon “SPIKE” to save his former friend and run off the heels.
Copeland returned the favor by spearing the former Patriarchy members before they could attack Christian from behind. Copeland hugged Christian afterwards, and he was receptive to it. A short while later, it was revealed that fka Edge & Christian will reunite at Forbidden Door when they team up against Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian.
Tony Schiavone will interview Cope & Cage tonight on Dynamite, so we’ll hear what they both have to say about finally reuniting in AEW. Christian has been a giant asshole for the last several years and was hell-bent on crippling Copeland at one point, so things are still a little awkward between them right now as they try to adjust to being allies again.
Are Edge and Christian both on the same babyface page going into Forbidden Door, or is Christian still mostly a selfish dickhead? Tune into Dynamite to find out.
The rest of the card
The legendary Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement tour makes its way to AEW tonight when he joins up with JetSpeed in a trios match against the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta). This bout is here to whet the appetite for Forbidden Door’s main event Lights Out Steel Cage match, which features half of these men (sorry, Wheeler and JetSpeed) as well as Darby Allin, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, the Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd. How many of those stars plan to show up tonight to incite a chaotic brawl in Glasgow?
Tony Khan is also promoting a face-to-face confrontation between Ospreay and Moxley tonight. Will they sound off before or after the trios match? There are still some concerns about Ospreay’s health given his recent reveal about herniated discs. Does Will have any physical limitations on his ring work going into Forbidden Door? Will the Death Riders to try to murder him with a plastic bag so he can’t make it to the PPV in London?
AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm and Alex Windsor team up for a tag match tonight against TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. Which side will get the last laugh before Athena challenges Storm and Windsor pursues Mone’s gold at Forbidden Door?
The AEW world tag team title eliminator tournament finally wraps up tonight with Brodido vs. FTR. The winning team challenges The Hurt Syndicate’s Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin for the belts at Forbidden Door. Is MVP’s crew willing to do the job for at least one of these teams?
We will hear from AEW World Champion Hangman Page tonight ahead of his title defense against MJF at Forbidden Door. How will the champ respond after the scumbag laid him out at the end of last week’s episode? Is it good enough to simply point out that MJF is a real dumbass for cashing in his Casino Gauntlet contract ahead of time?
Max Caster’s Best Wrestler Alive open challenge returns to Dynamite tonight, which doesn’t make Anthony Bowens happy. Is there a local favorite in Scotland who will answer the call?
Other stuff to keep an eye
– AEW commentator Nigel McGuinness is challenging IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. for the belt at Forbidden Door in London. Nigel earned the title match after besting Daniel Garcia and two others in a Technical Spectacle. Garcia is now in Nigel’s corner at the PPV. Will Daniel get any mic time tonight to let us know what’s going through his head after losing another big match?
– TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher likes killing legends, and is looking forward to wiping the floor with Hiromu Takahashi at Forbidden Door. But what will the champ do when the bell rings and he’s distracted by Hiromu’s very nice balls?
– Swerve Strickland and AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada are set to fight each other over the gold at Forbidden Door, and they could certainly benefit from a hot angle on tonight’s go home show. Does AEW have anything planned in that regard besides Okada calling the guy a bitch and flipping him off?
– Jon Moxley and his Death Riders seem to have a thing for Kris Statlander. Is it only a matter of time until they’re all feeling the wrath of Harley Cameron?
– Does Ace Austin have anything to say after officially becoming All Elite last week and losing his debut match to Ricochet?
– Where the f*** is Chris Jericho?
What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
