No. 20 Florida State baseball (8-2) begins its five-game week with a Tuesday night matchup against Jacksonville (9-3). The Seminoles defeated the Dolphins two weeks ago in a 13-3 run-rule victory on the road.
Last time out, Link Jarrett’s team swept The Citadel, holding the Bulldogs to only three runs in three games, including a shutout during Sunday’s series finale. FSU’s starting pitchers combined for 17 1/3 IP with only one earned run allowed, saving the bullpen for what will be a busy week for the Noles.
While Florida State did not announce a starting pitcher tonight, they will most likely throw LHP Payton Manca. If they decide to save Manca for tomorrow against Mercer, RHP Rhett Vaughn appears to be next in line to get the start.
As mentioned, tonight’s game kicks off the only five-game week of the season for the Seminoles. After tonight’s matchup, Jarrett’s squad is back in Dick Howser Stadium tomorrow against a Mercer team that has had its number of late, before taking on Northern Kentucky in a three-game series over the weekend. Along with JU being the first of five games, tonight is the first game of a new promotion for FSU baseball called ‘Turn it Back Tuesday.’ On each of these theme nights, the Noles will wear their vintage mustard jersey and garnet hats.
Switching gears to the Dolphins, JU is coming off a series defeat to UAB on the road. Jacksonville took game one of the series, 10-2, but dropped the following two contests. Their midweek matchup against UCF last week was postponed.
