The Portland Trail Blazers have assigned rookie center Yang Hansen to the Rip City Remix for scheduled practices, the organization announced on Saturday.
The Rose Garden Report’s Sean Highkin reported this assignment will just be for weekend duty, and it won’t overlap with any Trail Blazers games.
I’m told the Blazers are assigning Yang Hansen to the Rip City Remix this weekend so he can get some practice time in, and then he’ll be back with the Blazers for Monday’s game vs. the Lakers.
As Blazers backup
center Robert Williams III returned from injury to make his season debut against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, Yang logged his first “DNP — Coach’s Decision” of the season during the 109-107 win. Instead of using the rookie 7-foot-2 center, Blazers head coach Tiago Splitter opted to play Williams 11 minutes and fellow backup big Duop Reath seven minutes, as well as deploy small-ball lineups that didn’t feature a traditional center.
In five appearances this season, Yang has played sparingly. He has averaged 5.8 minutes, 1.8 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.4 blocks per outing.
The Remix, Portland’s G League affiliate, began training camp this past Monday. They tip off their regular season on Friday, Nov. 7 on the road against the Santa Cruz Warriors.
The Blazers tip off against the Lakers at the Moda Center on Monday night at 7 p.m. Pacific.
