Harry Kane is reportedly getting closer to staying at Bayern Munich, but the length of the new deal is now coming into focus after months of speculation.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, there has been a breakthrough in principle between Kane and Bayern Munich over a new contract, with negotiations now moving toward the final details. The current plan is for Kane to extend his contract through 2029, which would represent a two-year extension, rather than the three-year extension that
some might have expected for a player who will turn 33 this season.
Bayern Munich would be committing to Kane through his age-35 season without locking themselves into a longer deal that could become problematic toward the end of his career. At the same time, Kane gets the security of knowing he can continue his career in Munich while remaining at the center of Bayern’s project — making it a great environment to maintain his form in preparation for the UEFA EURO 2028 competition.
Kane’s performances have certainly earned that confidence. He has established himself as one of the most productive strikers in world football since arriving at Bayern Munich, and he is currently being considered as one of the leading candidates for the Ballon d’Or.
Kane’s plan has reportedly always been to extend his stay in Munich, rather than looking for another move. The final details are still being clarified, and a signing has not yet been scheduled.
However, the message is becoming pretty clear: Harry Kane and Bayern Munich are planning for the next two years together.
