Think of how potentially regal transactions could look if you used players’ full names. For example, here’s one from yesterday:
Washington Nationals traded LHP Jose Alexander Ferrer to Seattle Mariners
for C Harrison Michael Ford and RHP Isaac James Lyon.
Not bad! (Yes, I was bored thinking about the current offseason last night. So it goes.)
(Also, I just discovered that Isaac Lyon is Brandon Lyon’s son. I remember when the elder Lyon was a well-regarded young talent in the Curt Schilling trade between Arizona and Boston. Yeesh.)
Today on the site, Matt will continue his monthly series by building a Yankees team of players born in December. Later, John will have the weekly Social Media Spotlight, with a busy week for Aaron Judge and friends. Stay tuned tonight too, when Peter will write up the results of the Eras Committee vote, as former Yankees Don Mattingly, Roger Clemens, and Gary Sheffield are on the ballot.
May the first day of the Winter Meetings be an interesting one!
Questions/Prompts:
1. What’s your Hall of Fame prediction for tonight? Will any of Mattingly, Clemens, Sheffield, Barry Bonds, Dale Murphy, Carlos Delgado, or Fernando Valenzuela be honored in Cooperstown next summer?
2. To flip the script from a common question, whose offseason are you least interested in?
