The NBA always makes sure its in-season tournament, the NBA Cup, has a special feel to it. On the dates of NBA Cup games, no non-NBA Cup games are happening, and even the courts are changed.
On Friday,
the NBA revealed each NBA Cup floor, including the one the Lakers will play on.
This year’s court will feature the Lakers’ gold on the playing floor and purple on the outside borders. There are three NBA Cups, one at each free-throw line and one in the middle.
All 17 titles have a star and will be placed on the sidelines. Also in the center are two LA logos, one is translucent and the other is as bold as can be.
The court is very similar to last year’s. It has the same color scheme as this year’s and also includes the NBA Cups. The most significant difference is that, at center court, the 2024-25 version had the traditional Lakers logo and the LA skyline in the background.
The very first Lakers NBA Cup court was much plainer and didn’t have details like the stars. Overall, it seems minor improvements are now being made to a floor that already has a nice, unique style.
Last year’s court was a hit with fans, and this year’s revamp is just as good. They found a way to bring back an old favorite, but made enough tweaks that it doesn’t feel exactly the same. Fans won’t have to wait long before they can view this new Lakers court.
The NBA Cup begins on Oct. 31 for the Lakers, who take on the Memphis Grizzlies in Group B.
That will be a road game, though, so the first time fans can see this new floor will be on No. 25 when the Lakers take on the Clippers.
Hopefully, the Lakers do well in these games and this NBA Cup floor will see an extra contest as the Lakers host an elimination game before they head to Las Vegas for the semifinals.
